I am absolutely exhausted - I think that’s the sign of a good tour? Luckily I guessed our neighbour’s internet password so this blog comes to you from the comfort of mine and Owen’s living room instead of Headingley Library. Worst library ever.
Below are a few photos for your perusal. I don’t think I’m up to tour blogs these days (my memory’s going - I turn 20 this weekend) but suffice it to say we had a really good time and were really pleasantly surprised at how well we got on with Red Light Company and their audiences. The gigs were all busy and almost all sold out - we were a bit terrified of going down like a pretentious art-rock lead balloon; we couldn’t have been more wrong.
Some Rugger Beer Lads who seemed determined to have a fight with me as I went to buy cigarettes in Bristol turned up at the front of the show and were keen to remind us at every opportunity that we were a “CLASS ACT!” I’ve never seen anyone dance badly to Grammatics before but they obviously meant it. One got chucked out for having obviously drank ALL THE BOOZE.
We have two weeks off before we go out to play a Teenage Cancer Trust gig in London then head out on tour with our buddies Rolo Tomassi and Pulled Apart By Horses. That is going to be one long perpetual boozy train (van?) wreck. Frankly I can’t wait.
You might be aware that our album came out this week. Since it has we’ve had loads of really encouraging messages from people all over the world. Thanks a lot. Hope you like it. Since it was finished we’ve been writing and got loads of ideas flying around for the next - with any luck we’ll start recording it sometime within the next ????? (nine?) months.
We’re also really excited to have been asked by Bloc Party to support them on their never-ending (23 date) tour of these fair isles in October. We couldn’t really have asked for a more perfect opportunity. I worked out we’re gonna play to about 40,000 people in those few weeks which is a pretty thrilling idea.
I got into Spotify recently after first rejecting it as A&R voyeurism bullshit. The fact that Jonny Greenwood posted a playlist of classical Arab and Western music (something I’ve been trying to educate myself about with Alex Ross’ amazing book The Rest Is Noise) kinda changed my mind. I have since been enjoying the playlists posted on The Quietus(.com) - just listening to the Thatcherite Pop vs Marxism Funk one now. Interesting. I might make my own at some point and post it up here, keep your eyes peeled.
Enough bragging for now, I need to go and catch up with my Paul McKenna book on getting to sleep (read: getting a grip) before I am doomed forever.
